Hilo Daily Image
My name is Don Mitchell.
I was born and raised on the Big Island. This house and yard are my childhood home. I graduated from Hilo High and went off to Stanford (BA 1964) and Harvard (PhD 1972, anthropology).
I did fieldwork as an ecological anthropologist among the Nagovisi people of Bougainville Island (Papua New Guinea).
Although I taught anthropology at the college level for many years, I've had a life-long interest in photography and writing.
I irregularly blog. You can read about my story collection A Red Woman Was Crying here and see some of my on-line work here.
I now live in Dryden, NY (near Ithaca)., where I continue this practice as the Dryden Daily Image.
