I was headed out to the monkeypod tree, because I'd seen something interesting out there. But as I passed the rock wall, I noticed how the lava rocks were glistening in the light, and one had a red pattern in it. Then when I looked more closely, I saw juicy things growing. And I saw a shape of cracks that I liked.

When I was processing the image, I was first inclined to let the large horizontal crack stay shadowed. But after playing with it, I decided to open up the shadows except in the deepest part. My camera lets me do things that would be difficult or impossible with a lesser camera, because its dynamic range (the ratio of the darkest areas it can handle at the same time it's handling the lightest areas) is very high. If you're a photo nerd, here: it's almost 15 stops. There's not much white in this image, but there are definitely highlights.

Well, enough of that. Maybe we'll get some sun and dry weather, and maybe not. If not, you'll keep seeing wet and darkish images. I'll do my best to make them interesting.
