Sunny morning. The yellow Kula gardenia bush is exploding with blossoms. I keep thinking that there must be a way to get back from a blossoming shrub or tree and fill the frame with blossoms. And there must be, but I haven't found it yet.

When I turned away from the gardenia bush, still in the driveway, I saw the orange 'ohi'a exploding with color and, for the first time, was in a position to have the anthurium bed and the wall in the background. I don't know why I never noticed the conjunction, but I didn't.

In other news, an image that I made last week took first place in a contest last night. I'm pleased -- not just because I won, but because as I've said here several times, I sometimes imagine an image that I might make, even down to where I'd set up and what lens I'd use, but don't make it for a long time. I'd been thinking about going to Coconut Island and shooting back towards Hilo with a long lens for months. The contest spurred me to do it, I did it, and the results were what I thought I'd get. Here's the winner, and here's another one that I think is interesting.
