Ancillary Image

(fleshing out a particular Daily Image)

Two monkeypods. The lower one (we're seeing its crown) is a couple of hundred feet beyond the near one. Backlit, as you can see. The new lens is optically different from any lens I have (in fact, different from any lens Nikon has ever made) and so the way it renders flare (as we see here from the rising sun) is unusual. I'm not sure I like it, but that's the price to be paid for an extremely light and physically short 300 mm lens. Notice the lines to the lower right of the two greenish flares. I don't know what they are. Artifacts? There's one over towards the right, as well (almost vertical). I have to think that they aren't renditions of any real strings or cables or monster spiderwebs. I'll ask around in the Nikon community.
