I headed out to the back, on this dull morning, to see if I could find something entirely new. I've been feeling in quite the HDI rut, and haven't seen (haven't noticed, is I suppose more accurate) anything new or unusual for what feels like a long time.

I didn't get past this plant. I liked the stem color, the paired arcs, and the contrast between leaves and stem. Also, we haven't had spiderwebs for a while.

We put this one in years ago. It never grew strongly, but never looked sick, and occasionally put out some small, white flowers that smell of apricots, as it's doing now. Its Linnean binomial is Osmanthus fragrans.
