I couldn't think of any Cinco de Mayo subjects this morning.

But when I went out on the porch about 6:30, I noticed the orange splash on the Areca. I usually think of the Areca as a tree that's in the way of what I'd like to shoot. But today it looked quite nice, even against a dull sky. So I set up the 400 mm and got a bird as a bonus. That's a yellow-billed cardinal (from South America; obviously invasive).

I chose a slow shutter speed, hoping that the light wind would cause the fronds to thrash about and give me the moving-plus-stationary look that I like. But there wasn't enough wind for thrashing -- just enough to make it look as though I carelessly chose a too-slow shutter speed. Oh well.
