As you can see, I didn't get out of the house. Hilo's in a sunny period, and that's going to last for another three or four days.
I liked the way the sun was coming into the living room, onto the mahogany paneling, and onto this chair. The chair most likely came to Hilo from Michigan or perhaps Iowa. It was in my mother's family, so far as I know.
When I start with an image that's already contrasty, my tendency is to jack the contrast up even more, to produce one of those blown-out highlights deep black images that I admit I like very much. But this image called for lower contrast, trying to get detail in the highlights, and looking for a kind of smoothness.
So that's what you get today.
