The holiday flowers set out for planting, cinder-spattered wall, hose, and deeply-shaded hapu'u. Well, deeply-shaded with some help from the Black and Shadows sliders. I didn't touch Saturation (the plants were the background for this December image).

 

Yesterday we were back at Hilina Pali with our visitors. Walking around on a lava flow near the Pali, doing video, I was again struck by how easily a photographer could spend days on the same patch of lava. That's how varied and interesting the textures and colors are, especially in closeup.

 

The yard here, on the other hand, is a lot closer.
