Here's a Christmas present with a very long history.

In Buddha's day, he sat under the famous Bohdi tree. A cutting from that tree was taken to Sri Lanka. A cutting from that tree was brought to Honolulu by Anagarika Dharmapala in 1913, and planted at Foster Botanical Gardens. Anagarika Dharmapala was Mary Foster's spiritual instructor.

This little Bohdi tree has been grown from a cutting from the Foster Gardens tree, and thus traces its lineage back to the Buddha's time and place.

Our great friend Tim Lippold, of the Kathmandu Trading Company in Hilo, was able to get the Bodhi tree, and gave it to Ruth. If you go to Tim's store site, you'll be greeted by a Tibetan tiger -- the photograph is of the tiger on my workroom wall, not much more than an arm's length from where I work on these pictures and this site.
