Indeed Ana gave us a miss, but we've been getting steady rain for hours. No wind, so there shouldn't be any damage around Hilo.

I haven't offered up black and white since the normal-contrast one in August. Here's a high-contrast one. I can't be doing the lovely tropical garden thing all the time, can I?

I did like the first image I made this morning, but I've relegated it to ancillary status.

I'm thinking about deferring tomorrow's HDI until after I get back from my long walk (early afternoon). If the weather's so bad I don't go, then the HDI will be up at the usual time. Rain is nothing, but visibility is. Most of the time I walk on two-lane winding roads with modest shoulders, and even in my violent green singlet and good weather I've had close calls. It's true that I could head downtown and use sidewalks, but that's boring. True, if the surf's up it might not be.

So if you're looking for the HDI at the usual time and don't find it, hang on. It'll be up.
