It's still cloudy and spitting a little rain here. And tropical storm (soon to be hurricane) Ana's aimed at us and should strike Saturday. It looks as though Ka'u and the South Point area will get the worst of it, but the storm track could change.

Today's HDI has an unusual combination: iris and taro. The lava tube I dug out in 2010 and planted with taro and irises was all grown over with weeds and vines, but I didn't do anything about it until a month or so ago, when I thinned the taro and discovered that the irises were still there. They must have wanted sun.

Here's the first blossom of the irises' new life in the sun. Of course I speak generally. I don't think the irises or the taro or any of us are going to see much sun for a few days.
