Yesterday I was taking the dead and dying fronds from the hapu'u along the side of the house. This needs doing every month or so, although the green-yellow-brown fronds do make nice color combinations. I saw there was a frond opening, so this morning I went out to see what I could do with it.

The sun was beginning to illuminate it, which was promising. It was high overhead. So this is composed on the LCD screen, auto-focus, camera held up at arm's length. At least I could see in the screen where the autofocus was going to lock.

But -- I'm aware that I say this often -- this shot (the best of the lot) was, well, boring. So it was time for messing with color, both saturation and luminance.

And the Clarity slider got some work also. Most people bump Clarity up a little, and so do I. But sometimes taking it down is just the thing, and that's what I did today.

Here's a tip for anybody working with Lightroom. If your sky is washed-out, then sometimes taking Highlights and Blue Luminance way down can get you an interesting blue. False, but interesting.

Back to naturalistic tomorrow. Maybe.
