New Guinea Black Ti.

When I went out this morning and walked down into the zen garden, I was overcome by the scent of the pikake we planted near the entrance, in the same planters as the black ti. I was immediately transported to Hilo High, late fifties, and particularly to Hilo High proms, where I would give my prom date a pikake lei. Most of us did, and on prom night the Hilo High gym smelled like pikake rather than what an old gym in the tropics smells like. Pikake is in the jasmine family, and will bloom every month or so. I need to plant more.

So I made a lot of pikake shots, including this one, and stayed in the area as long as I could, taking in the smell. But on the way out, I saw this ti leaf, shot it, and in the end chose it over the pikake for the HDI. I like the colors.
