This is the 1984 Mauna Loa flow that came within a few miles of the house, before stopping. The picture was made at about 8000' (2400 metres) elevation. There's more vegetation on the flow at lower altitudes. Give it another century and we'll probably have a thin forest here -- unless, of course, Mauna Loa sends another flow over this one.
