About 5 AM, lit from the porch light, to the left from a passing car, and all over the sky, from the sun (still below the horizon). Twenty-five second exposure. To my eye, the east was unlit. But to the camera's eye, it was ruddy.

I'm up early because I'm headed (on foot) for a place called Hale Pohaku, on Mauna Kea. It should take me about 9 hours to walk there, and the elevation gain is about 9000 feet. Ruth loves the silverswords and mamani trees at Hale Pohaku, so she's happy to drive up there, sit in some of her favorite places, do a little writing, and wait for me.
